The Federation of Ysgol Penrhyn-coch and Ysgol Penllwyn recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. Child protection forms part of the schools’ safeguarding responsibilities. Our Safeguarding policy underpins and guides our procedures and protocols to ensure its pupils and staff are safe.

The designated senior person responsible for child protection is Ms Catryn Lawrence. Miss Lawrence is the designated member of staff responsible for promoting the educational achievement of looked after children. Mr Bryn Shepherd and Mrs Bethan Evans are responsible in her absence. Mr Robert Mills is designated governor with responsibility.

Prevent

Terrorism can occur anywhere in the world with atrocities carried out in support of various ideologies.  There is no single definition of terrorism but it commonly refers to criminal acts intended to provoke a state of terror in the general public.

Prevent is part of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy that aims to stop people becoming terrorists.  It is a multi-agency approach to safeguard people at risk of radicalisation.

All Schools have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism. This means that we have a responsibility to protect children from extremist and violent views, in the same way we work to protect them from drugs or gang violence. Importantly, we can provide a safe place for pupils to discuss these issues so that they better understand how to protect themselves.
