ALN

Our policy outlines the way in which pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) are identified and supported in line with the Additional Learning Needs Code and Regulations (2021).

Miss Rhian Cory is the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCo) at Ysgol Penllwyn and Ysgol Penrhyn-coch. All staff are trained to support ALN pupils.

If you think your child may have ALN, or if the teacher thinks a pupil has ALN its really important that information is shared, and discussion is had with regards to  next steps in support. After a period of observations, a person centred review will be held to decide if a child has ALN. Arrange a meeting to discuss with the class teacher in the first instance if you think you child may have an additional learning need.

A person has additional learning needs if he or she has a learning difficulty or disability (whether the learning difficulty or disability arises from a medical condition or otherwise) which calls for additional learning provision.

If they have ALN for the purposes of the Additional Learning Needs Code and Regulations, the school or local authority will create a document called an Individual Development Plan (IDP) which will note the Additional Learning Provision agreed upon to support the learner. The IDP helps adults around the child know how best to support them.  A learner may have an IDP for a short period of time, and come to a point where they no longer require one. Or a learner may need an IDP to support them throughout their time at school.
